The Best Spots to Shoot Cars in Metro Manila

Location scouting is probably the most underrated part of car photography. The right background can elevate an average car. The wrong one can kill a great one.

Here are the spots around Metro Manila I use regularly, and what I look for at each.

BGC — Bonifacio Global City

BGC is the obvious choice and for good reason: clean streets, wide roads, modern buildings, and good ambient light in the early morning before traffic picks up. The main issue is access — you can't just park anywhere, and security is tight in a lot of areas.

The spots that work best: the quieter roads behind the high-rises on the north end, the underpasses (if you can get access during a slow period), and the open areas near Lawton Avenue before 7am on weekdays. The glass-and-steel building reflections on a clean car are genuinely hard to beat in this country.

C5 and SLEX Flyovers — Early Morning

Counterintuitive, but elevated roads shot at ground level with the city behind are excellent. At 5–6am on a Sunday, you can get 10–15 minutes of a completely empty C5 overpass with soft golden light and the Metro Manila skyline in the background. I've used this spot more than I expected to.

SLEX going toward Alabang also has great stretches — long straight roads, clean barriers, and a predictable wind direction that keeps the air clear for outdoor portraits.

Nuvali, Sta. Rosa — Day Trips

An hour south of Manila (in good traffic — it's Laguna, so plan accordingly), Nuvali has the open roads, lake views, and general cleanness that makes it a solid choice for cars that need a more natural or upscale backdrop. The commercial strip there also has a very specific, uniform architectural look that photographs well.

This is also just a generally respected spot in the PH car community, which makes it useful for event shoots as well.

Industrial Areas — Pandacan, Paco, Port Area

This is the one most people don't use, which is exactly why I like it. Old warehouses, textured concrete walls, industrial gates, forklifts in the background — it creates a visual contrast with a clean car that's hard to get anywhere else. A spotless JDM build against a rusted corrugated metal wall is a completely different story than the same car in a white studio.

The trade-off is access and security. Most of these locations require some advance scouting to know where you can and can't park, and some require permission. Worth the effort if you're shooting something that fits the aesthetic.

The Key Variables at Any Location

It's not just about where you go — it's about when. Light changes everything:

- Golden hour (1 hour after sunrise, 1 hour before sunset): warm, directional, forgiving - Overcast: flat but consistent — good for detail work and colors, eliminates harsh shadows - Night: you control the light, which means extra time and gear setup, but complete creative control

I'd always rather shoot in a mediocre location with good light than a great location in harsh midday sun.
